UCT's Primary Health Care Directorate (PHCD) seeks to appoint a permanent full-time Senior Lecturer from the 1st August 2014 reporting to the PHCD Director. The main purpose of this position is to teach, research and render service to other departments within the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) in the academic field of medical humanities.

As a relatively new field in the health sciences, a developmental approach is required to establish best practice in the field, demonstrate its relevance in health sciences curricula and research strategies, and negotiate the appropriate role of medical humanities in teaching and research activities of the university. While the post is located in the FHS, the appointed candidate will be part of the university's interdisciplinary initiative to strengthen collaboration between the humanities and health sciences, specifically with the Faculty of Humanities' interests in medical anthropology, bioethics, medical history, as well as public health.
